To check the fluid the trans has to be warmed up, like driven at lest 10 miles. Engine running at idle in park, and on level ground. It is quite sensitive to not being on level ground. I took to using a carpenter's level on the rear deck to get it exactly level by shimming up the wheels. a little bit off makes a big difference in the level on the dipstick.
