Try 10W40. I started to have oil light flicker with 10W30 this summer (91
vanagon)and switched to 20W50. Problem went away. This winter I switched to
10W40 and have not seen the dreaded oil light flicker even after driving for
a couple of hours. We have mornings below zero F. here in Northern Michigan
and I have had no trouble starting. I plan to switch to synthetic oil in the
spring.
