Hi guys and gals, My first post as I joined this list about 3 days ago. I'm amazed on all the good information and experience being shared around. Makes me feel more comfortable as I set out to take the plunge and get my first Vanagon westy!!! I got the money saved to buy it and the wife's blessing; just have to find one in the NW here. Shouldn't be a problem. Looking forward to picking your brains!!! Anyway, it is my understanding that the first VW engines (the original Beetle Engines during the war) were in fact already existing aircraft engines converted for the Beetle. It is quite common in the experimental aircraft area to find VW powered light aircraft. (i.e. http://www.aeroconversions.com/aero_vee_2002.html )There is even a two cylinder version out there you cut a 1600 in half (plans on E-bay). It is because I was researching engines for an airplane that I started down my VW-fascination path which has now led leading to my intention to buy a Vanagon; sold my Boler trailer and truck so I could do it!! I hope to gain the experience and knowledge on my Westy to eventually consider a VW engine for an aircraft. Anyway, looking forward to learning and contributing in the future Here is a link some of you may be interested in as well: http://www.bgsoflex.com/auto.html
