LOL The soaring club I'm in owns a Scheibe "Falke" motorglider that's powered by a VW-based engine built by Limbach Flugmotoren. Even has valve covers with the VW logo stamped on 'em. It's mounted 'backwards', with the prop on what would be the fan pulley end in a Bug. There are some differences, of course -- for example, it uses a magneto instead of a conventional distributor and points ignition, and it has a carburator with a manual mixture control. But the case and heads are unmistakably a VW aircooled. -- David Brodbeck, N8SRE '82 VW Diesel Westfalia '86 Volvo 240DL wagon |
