Jesse, I haven't done an auto tranny myself either, but there have been many posts about doing an auto tranny in the home garage. Apparently the auto tranny isn't that difficult, and can be managed with ordinary shop tools. But the manual tranny is a different bear. it requires jigs to get everything propperly aligned internally. Those jigs are not something everyone is going to have or know how to use.
