Subject: Re: 85 wbx miss at idle...update =)

while below link is a fine article about detonation, this is different than classic pinging due to over-advanced timing, where, obviously, the spark initiates combustion. slight pinging is not serious, and an engine that has a slight ping, occasionally, has essentially optimum timing. ideally the engine would be just on the verge of pinging under all conditions. one might think the timing should be set at exactly 0 deg BTDC under all conditions, but it takes time for the mixture to ignite and really start burning, and so spark timing is advanced in order to provide the most umph during power stroke. wbx timing immediately advances off idle, and so worrrying about 5 deg one way or the other in terms of engine damage is ridiculous; engine idle will speed up as timing is advanced from stock digijet, then must be adjusted back to spec, then timing re- adjusted, in an iterative process.
