I thought you North American guys might like to drool over this van, which is a camper conversion on a 1998 South African Microbus (Vanagon):

Note the 2.6 liter 5-cylinder Audi motor, the 15 inch OEM alloy wheels with 205/65 R15 tires and A/C. Also note the deeper side windows and smoother profile - the post-1991 SA Vanagons had distinctive, smoother body sides that were never seen on German-made models. This one has only 31,000 recorded miles - and is priced accordingly!

My new Vanagon is also South African; it's a white 1995 Caravelle with the same 2.6i engine and the same alloy wheels. I will receive it three weeks from now. It will replace my 1985 Transporter 1.9 WBX with Reimo camper conversion. Thankfully, it cost me much less than half the price of the one on eBay, but it has covered 90,000 miles - including an overland trip from Cape Town to the UK!

I haven't yet decided which UK conversion company will convert my new van, but it will be a day van with a bed rather then a full camper. It will have neither an elevating nor fixed high top because I like to be able to park in multi-story parking lots across the UK, most of which have a 2.0 meter height limit (6'6").

Tony
