When it gets bitchin' cold, any marginal coolant connection of a Vanagon is
in jeopardy.  The good thing about it is that since they are easily traced
you've found a potential problem.  Some time ago, there was an article in the
Limbo newsletter about a guy who ran a fleet of Vanagons in Alaska under
conditions in which it was necessary to leave vehicles running or else wait until the
spring thaw to restart them.  He was unfazed by coolant leaks from the water
jacket gummies.  He said that once it got cold enough they all will weep a bit
only to stop when it warmed up.
