I dunno, I was perfectly happy at some point to let my wasser-leaker die five years ago. I drove it from Raleigh-Durham to Atlanta on practically NO coolant (it would overheat everytime i slowed below 30 mph--thank whatever it was about 20 degrees outside--my engine was essentially air-cooling). It gave me the excuse to replace the whole engine with a canadian remanufactured one that has performed flawlessly now nearly 80,000 miles. Best $3,600 I ever spent. I just wasn't impressed with most people's results from head gasket replacements that frequently threw good money after bad.

Just my experience,

Donald Baxter '85 Vanagon GL, 218,000 miles (engine at 141,000 miles) Iowa City (Land of the Screaming Deans!)
