I agree that the round 7" Hellas are they way to go when you consider all the factors. If you have a 1980-1985 Vanagon you can uprgade to quailty H4s for less than $90 in an hours time.

All three of my car have the exact same setup. One pair of round 7" Hella H4s each. I suppose I could even outfit my ancient Honda motorcycle with a Hella 7" H4 headlamp. DOT lamps are absolute garbage.

It sounds like the SA grill quality is poor and unless you do alot of highspeed backwoods driving I doubt the inner lamps would get much use. Heck, I removed the inner lamps on my 1991 GTi and I haven't missed them a bit.
