Hi guys and gals,

My first post as I joined this list about 3 days ago. I'm amazed on all the
good information and experience being shared around. Makes me feel more
comfortable as I set out to take the plunge and get my first Vanagon
westy!!!  I got the money saved to buy it and the wife's blessing; just have
to find one in the NW here. Shouldn't be a problem. Looking forward to
picking your brains!!!

Anyway, it is my understanding that the first VW engines (the original
Beetle Engines during the war) were in fact already existing aircraft
engines converted for the Beetle.  It is quite common in the experimental
aircraft area to find VW powered light aircraft. (i.e.
http://www.aeroconversions.com/aero_vee_2002.html )There is even a two
cylinder version out there you cut a 1600 in half (plans on E-bay).  It is
because I was researching engines for an airplane that I started down my
VW-fascination path which has now led leading to my intention to buy a
Vanagon; sold my Boler trailer and truck so I could do it!! I hope to gain
the experience and knowledge on my Westy to eventually consider a VW engine
for an aircraft.
