I'm with Don!!! If you set out to rebuild a motor.... do just that ... rebuild the motor!!!

Anything else is half measures, which you will soon enough regret!

By the time you get done rebuilding the heads, the connecting rods, put an .010/.010 or better crank in it (never less, 020/.020 or more is junk, IMHO), plus all the other details that you should do to really rebuild the motor... you have sunk a bunch of money is this little excursion. Using used piston and cylinder sets is then, just plain silly. That last little bit of money saved puts the whole (expensive) effort in jeopardy!

Now if you are just patching it up to limp a few more months, that is another thing entirely. That is a quick and dirty effort that has no long term outlook and low expectations! That was why it was done o on the cheap! What did the Fram oil filter guy say? "Pay me now or pay me later".

I know all this because I have made the wrong choice myself. Boy, is that a painful lesson!
