Can a person use any type of homemade tool or do I have to hunt down a special VW tool for this ? I have been getting excellent tech support from Bob Donald so far. Also are there any other things to be careful of when doing this job? Thanks Jeff 1990 Westy -------------------------- Clip ------------------------ I nearly scream anytime I find someone that doesn't even own a pair of $6.00 circlip pliers trying to rebuild a VW engine. My advise is to use a socket and tap it against each clip after they're installed so you can be sure they've dropped down into the grove properly. If you're using your old pistons be sure that you buy new circlips for retaining the wrist pins. Also be advised that the arrow in the piston tops point towards the flywheel.
