I swapped snorkel to the right rear of my '82 Westy from the left rear(formerly Diesel) .

The main reason is to draw the intake air higher above the ground where the air is cleaner on dusty roads. It also reduces noise.

all '86-'91 vanagons have a "snorkel" "cold air intake" in the right rear air scoop, leading down thru a hose to the factory airbox. (i bet half of you didnt even know this) has anyone ever tried to retrofit one of these setups to a 80-85 van? would it improve performance? (colder, denser air entering the TB = more HP) or would the improvement be so minimal it wouldnt be worth the trouble? on the stock 86 up air intake snorkel in the RR scoop, the snorkel is turned away from the opening, so rain doesnt come in.. even tho at the bottom of the hose, where it turns to go to the engine (behind the RR taillight) there is a "p trap" and drain hole so it can let water out.. i have like 3 of these setups here (3 '86 up parts vans) and was thinking of adding one to my '84 but do u think it would make a difference?
