One thing I would like to mention though is that the snorkel tube on all those "86 ~ '91, 2 WD vans are prone to self destruction. Being made from some kind of German paper stuff they are all now in some stage of dissentigrating. I have seen two that have colapsed and blocked the air intake to the point the engines lost power. I have succesfully replaced them with dryer vent tubing or even better the snorkel tube from a Syncro model. They are made from flexible plastic ducting, much better ! I have done my own van and one customers so far. Biggest problem here is finding the complete snorkel duct from a Syncro. No longer availible from VW. You need the hose and the two hose adapters at each end to fit it to your 2 WD van intake system. Cheers,
