I heard that the firewall nipple can break easily becouse its old hardened VW plastic. So, if you use your plan, you wont be missing/needing the nipple piece anyways. If you remove the nipple, could'nt you run the long fuel injection grade hose through where the plastic nipple firewall USED to be? Running it over the engine sounds safer.
