Well, not quite. It actually slides to the front. And where we have the luggage rack, there is a little and very useful cabinet space with a door. A window with a curtain in front above. I did not ever open the bed on top and used the space to store our suite cases above. The hight top is practical, you don't need to open the top up and wherever you stop can stay without being obviously camping. The storage place was very needed.
