Actually, I'll tell the story of how I got them out, since it was not soooo bad:

I just used a box end wrench at various angles, and turning it 180 every now and then (most box ends are angled, so one angle works better than the other). A little at a time, since those dash support "struts" are in the way. Took about 5 minutes to remove both of them.

I was just going to replace one, but decided to "do it right". (for once) :-)
