Subject:      power steering noise

Hi all:   My 91 is now making a terrible groaning
noise (from the power steering pump, I think) until it
warms up a bit. (There is no belt squeal at all.) The
power steering also doesn't work until van runs for a
few minutes. Is this an indication of pump failure? I
notice the fluid is more brown than pink also. How
long will it last before pump or something else fails
altogether?  Thanks
