Tom,

That's a common problem here in California. Easy fix... new catalytic converter. Believe it or not, check with your local Kragen, AutoZone or equivalent. Their prices are about the same as the online vendors (me included), and you wont have to pay shipping.

Cheers,

Jeff

Well, my 89 Westy failed the nitrogen oxide emissions. Over 30% higher than allowed. I was told that is typically caused by a stuck EGR valve but these vehicles don't have one! High NOx is caused by very high combustion temps. Should I back off a little on the timing and run premium gas for the next test or what? It is all stock now. Thanks! Tom Miller
