Recently I saw a report on a local TX TV new report of a new chemical that improves fuel enough that many marginal cars can pass the emissions testing. (I don't know the name of the product but your local FLAPS probably does.) The test performed was the initial test mixing the additive and reducing the NOx / and other readings. The same car was tested weeks later after using the additive with regular fillups and the emissions remained low. The cost per use was only about 60 cents per tank.

Well, my 89 Westy failed the nitrogen oxide emissions. Over 30% higher than allowed. I was told that is typically caused by a stuck EGR valve but these vehicles don't have one! High NOx is caused by very high combustion temps. Should I back off a little on the timing and run premium gas for the next test or what? It is all stock now. Thanks! Tom Miller
