Hi Joe,

On February 7 I will collect my "new" South African 1995 VW Caravelle 2.6i with the 5-cylinder Audi engine. It's not a conversion, it's the real thing, but I believe the Overland conversion is very closely based on it.

I will be pleased to post some reports about it on the List over the coming months, if anyone is interested.

I have only had one hour's test drive so far, but it seems to have outstanding power and torque. With 145 bhp it is significantly more powerful than the 112 bhp 2.1 WBX, and hopefully it will also be more reliable long term. Fuel consumption might be a problem for me; here in the UK I have to pay about US $5.50 per US gallon of unleaded.

But I'll let you know how it goes.

Tony
