Why not just install a Subaru 2.2L motor? End result: More power, California emissions approved (already cleared with sticker), fits in engine compartment with no modifications (actually, better than the original VW motor, about the same price, and (dare I say) a better motor. I know some people will say, "Don't put that Jap (excuse me, country to the far east of us in the USA) crap in your van!" Well, ask any person that's done the conversion and they all say that they love their van even more with the new far eastern power. Just a thought.
