Hello all,

My '85 camper has been starting a bit oddly for a week now. I noticed a slower start a few weeks ago, but just this week it has been consistently acting up. I'll turn the key and the starter will rev-rev, pause, and then rev again and start the engine. Only a few times has this caused the van not to start, but I'm getting worried that the problem may be getting worse. As a newbie in the vanagon world, I'd appreciate any info or advise as to what can/should be done.

Also, very occasionally (twice in two months now) I'll start the van and a number of electrical functions do not work like the headlights and wiper blades. When this happens, I'll turn off the van, restart it, and the problem goes away. Any clues as to what could be causing this? Is this indicative of some problem in particular, and should I be worrying?

Thanks for the patience and help!

Dylan '85 Westy Campmobile
