I don't think my friend Vern is on this list, so I'll relay what he's told me about his decision to go with the straight up pop-top ala ASI Riviera. <http://wetwesties.tripod.com/riviera/index.html>

More useable space. Better "canvas" Better ventilation

Downside? The ASI (and AFAIK most 'not Westfalia' Vanagon tops) are made of ABS. They crack and are difficult to repair.

That being said, Vern appears to be happy with his choice. He made if after looking at VW campers at WetWesties gatherings for a number of years.

He bought an '82 ASI Mini-motorhome and immediately started the Corvair conversion. I can't wait to see the finished product.
