Subject: Replacing Rear Axels tips and tricks?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

hey Gang, been awhile!

Any words of wisdom to replace the rear axels and cvs? I have them coming as a unit tomorrow. I have replaced CV joints before YEARS ago on my old GTI but it has been awhile since undertaking something this substantial with a car, especially a Westy.

I have been having a vibration between 40-60 MPH (70-100KMH)..a solid, low frequency one that is there at speed even when shifting to N and letting the engine idle. I recently had new YOKOs tires put on and thought they may be the culprit as it seemed to appear about the same time but have had them rebalanced twice now to ensure they are not the issue. However, I also had the auto tranny done last year too, and the heads the year before...!

So everybody is saying the others are at fault or a CV is going. SO, I will just replace the CVs and narrow it down. One is clicking with changes in inertia so it is prolly time anyways.

Thanks so much, Cheers,
