Unless the ignition setup on later Vanagons is different than that of the air-cooled models I don't see how you can remove the ignition switch from the steering lock housing without first removing the housing. If that was so, why even bother removing the steering wheel since the ignition switch is at the far end of the steering lock housing, away from the steering wheel. Just to make sure I hadn't forgotten the setup I went downstairs and looked at my spare steering lock housing; the screw holding the ignition switch in place is an inch or so up from the bottom of the housing, right next to the upper steering column. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Young '81 Vanagon Lafayette, CA 94549 '82 Westfalia ---------------------------------------------------------------
