This is true. The left side firewall needs to be clearanced. Mine was cut
and a wedged shaped piece was cut out of the top of the frame rail, then the
sheet metal was pushed back and sealed back up with more sheet metal .

I used the long runner 1.8 intake manifold but you can limit the amount of
firewall clearancing needed by using a intake manifold from a VW Fox or
others with short runners.
Long runners increase low-end torque.

Ideally you would keep the ABA engine intact for the full crossflow benefits
but I did'nt want to put a bump in the engine led or raise the deck.

I saw a Fox manifold set up and they clearanced the firewall with a sledge
hammer. Once the engine is in you can't see the indentation or the
clearancing so it doesn't have to be aesthetic- but do make sure you paint
the area that has been modified.
