Volks, OK - so I took the advice, went out to JC Whitney (thanks for the heads up, lost the original email, but I think it was Stan) and ordered the Cheetah keyless entry -- it arrived on Saturday, and I installed it today. VERY EASILY DONE! So, if you've got central locking, end the needless wear-and-tear on your ignition key today! :-) This is, already, the best $40.00 I spent ($30 + S/H). I just spliced into the yellow and white wires in the door, snaked a wire out of the door into the cabin (yeah, yeah, I could of found the wires in the dash, but I've removed that dash once before -- not going back unless I really have to!), hooked up the wiring (5 wires, 2 for power, ground, and 2 for the actuator lock/unlock) - done! Great range on this Cheetah device too! No alarm, no flashing of the lights, just lock and unlock -- good enough for me! -Robert -----Original Message----- From: Stan Wilder <wilden1-1@SBCGLOBAL.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Tue, 27 Jan 2004 16:28:14 -0600 Subject: Re: Me Too: Remote control door unlocking?

You're not looking at anything sophisticated here. You can go to various electronics suppliers and buy controllers for garage doors, automatic gates or specifically for automotive remote functions. I'll just bet that J.C. Whitney or WW Granger can supply what you need for about $30.00 in the form of a kit.
