thanks to all that participated in my coolant needle survey. the results will help me trouble shoot a cold cooling system problem i have been having for the second half of the winter. here are the results and enjoy.
Position of coolant needle in cold weather (0-32 F) ------------------------------------- Engine => 1.9 waterboxer 84 1.9 1/2 way from cold line to LED 84 1.9L, Just below the LED, stays there all the time, summer and winter. ---------------------------------------- Engine => 2.1 waterboxer 86 GL During normal every day driving (heater on, but blower off) the temp. needle sits dead square on the LED. With the blower on 2, the needle sits a needles width below the LED. With the rear heater blower on 2 also, the needle is two needle widths below the LED. 87 2.1 at at LED 87, the needle sits a hair above the LED almost all the time, Winter and Summer. 91 Carat, 2.1 engine w/manual trans, needle is just below the LED. ------------------------------------------ Engine => inline gas volkswagen (TIICO, Golf, Jetta) bottom of needle sits on top 1/3 of LED.
