I've never heard of Eurovan wheels that have an offset of 53mm. I'm not familiar with the offset on the steel wheels, but the alloys usually have an offset of 35mm-45mm. As you probably know, the 2wd Vanagon is 30mm (you mentioned that below) and the Vanagon Syncro is 35mm. The difference between 53mm and 30mm= 0.90551 inches between 53mm and 35mm= 0.70866 inches Those are some thick spacers and long studs, not that it can't be done, but is it worth it? Where do you find 14mm studs that are long enough for the thickness of the backing plate, the spacer, the wheel, and enough thread to get a nut totally threaded on it. Then you have to think about the stress exerted on the stud over that distance along with the load on the wheel bearings of that wheel. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, it just seems like a bit of a risk and expense for little gain. I hope you got a great deal on those wheels. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Matt
Subject: Steal Wheels? I jumped on an opportunity to acquire a set of brand-new, never been mounted 16" "vanagon wheels" for a good price. They turned out to be Eurovan wheels, but they seemed close enough to Vanagon wheels that I bought 'em. However, the offset is 53 mm (ET 53) compared to the Vanagon's 30mm. Anyone have experience with this situation? Or maybe I should be asking if it is worth it to use spacers, where to get them and the longer bolts needed for a Syncro? Wheely big thanks, ron antaki |
