Hi Eric,

If you have the skills to do a clutch, you can do the tranny. The difference this time is that you leave the engine in and just yank the tranny. I have a partial writeup of this method at: http://volksweb.relitech.com/clutch.htm

Seems to me that you could buy really good rebuilt tranny from a list vendor and put it in yourself for not much more than the quoted used price.

Hi All -

I think I have the infamous 3-4 Gear Slider issue and would love some advice on how to proceed.

What happens is that in 3rd gear, I will get stuck unless I shift once to neutral, and then once again to the other gear I'm looking for. It's not completely stuck, but it's sticking more and more and I'm afraid of having it stick for good eventually.

So it sounds to me like I need a new tranny. After shopping around, I see that I have a couple options - a used tranny for about 700, installed, a rebuilt for about 1200. Does anybody know if it's worth getting a used, or am I just delaying the headaches?

Also - how hard is it to install a new transmission. I've done the clutch before, but never the whole tranny?

Any bits of info would be a great help here. Also - anyone have a good used tranny they know has been rebuilt for sale?
