I installed an iPod in my van. I have an Alpine unit 7892, which you can purchase an AI-NET/RCA Interface Cable for. I went to Radio Shack and constructed an adapter to go from the RCA Interface Cable to a 1/8'' stereo jack plug. I drilled a small hole in the dash for the 1/8'' stero jack input, see the link below for some ideas.

I have an iPod holder mounted to the front/left of the gear shifter. I just use a cable to go 1/8'' stereo out of the iPod to the installed jack on the dash. My homegrown cable goes from the dash into the stereo. To listen to the iPod, I just press play and switch the stereo to Aux. I can plug in my laptop, guitar, etc. and have the sound played over the van's stereo.

It's a clean install that works really well.

Hope this helps, Josh
