Subject: Battery compartments that are not externally vented...is this OK?
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

My new '87 Wolfsburg Westy has a main battery compartment (the one under the front passenger seat), that is not externally-vented. It looks just like the auxiliary battery compartment; just a hinged, black metal lid. My '87 Syncro Westfalia has the externally-vented/sealed-off from the cab main battery compartment; I thought this was standard on all Vanagons with inside mounted batteries. What's the deal with this? Why would they take steps to vent the off-gasing to the outside in one model, and not worry about it with another; in the same year, no less. Should I do something about this? Thanks, Brett Baer
