Subject: Oil Pressure light 87 Vanagon FIXED!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hello to all-

I just wanted to thank everybody for their help regarding my oil light problem on my 87 Vanagon. After lots of troubleshooting the problem was a faulty voltage regulator on my alternator.

I installed a new voltage regulator/brushes kit on my alternator a couple of weeks ago. It checked OK after installation.

Last night after more touble-shooting (trying your suggestions) I measured the output voltage of my alternator... It was 16.5 VDC at idle and 18.0 VDC at 2000 RPM...

I put the old one back in and no more oil pressure light! I'm sending the faulty one back for replacement. I'm getting pretty good at removing the alternator...

Many thanks. I hope this info can help somebody else later.
