Hi all,

Since we're hearing all of these bear stories I thought I would tell mine. I was camped in a reasonably remote area near Cimarron, NM for two months during the summer of 2000. I knew there were plenty of bears around, but I had not seen any in my particular locality. Late in July, one evening near nightfall, I though I heard a grunting sound down in the woods, but I attributed the sound to an elk (lots of them around). I sleep up top in my Westy. Around midnight I awoke to a significant blowing-snorting sound right beside my head. Jeez oh man, did I move quickly! A bear was standing on the side of my bus, sniffing around the canvas. I yelled (I really probably screamed like a girl) and scared the bear away. Next morning I got lots of photos of bear tracks all around. Needless to say, I slept with my top down for the next week that I was there.

Have fun and be safe out there!
