Are you sure it is blow-by? I had that problem in my 81 Rabbit Diesel and found out there was air getting into the fuel line to the injection pump! I tightened the hose fitting on the fuel filter and problem solved. Check it before you take the engine down. The clear fuel line makes it easy to spot air bubbles. Rev the engine and watch the fuel line. I have bad blow-by and am loosing power up hill on my new motor. I am going to pull it apart tomarrow and re-ring it myself, this time. Any thoughts on the different brands of rings for the 1.6D on a Vanagon? I don't want to do this again!
