I went to an upholstery shop and got a nice high-quality vinyl that
more matches the laminate surfaces than the original panels, but it
looks really good. I took the panels out and removed the original
covering with a heat gun and scraper. It was pretty easy. I bought a
several cans of high-temp spray adhesive, and attached the vinyl and
punched all the holes out with a cheap set of jc whitney punches.

You can buy the original covering (basket-weave) from several sources
including bus depot and gowesty.com, I think.

I did the whole car in two evenings. Spray both surfaces and then apply
together and go over with a roller. It won't look good until 12 hours
later or so.
