Truly horror stories!!

Regards the dry powder extinguisher, the worst horror story I know of with that stuff was when the owner of an antique airplane called a Cessna 195 (it had a 7 cylinder radial engine that cranked out 300 hp.) over-primed it at Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage, AK . The carburetor, being an updraft type, dumped the excess draining from the intake pipes down onto the ground. The engine, being flooded, kicked back and the gas caught on fire. Now the trick to starting an engine with an engine fire is to keep on cranking, shut off the mixture, and pull the carburetor heat control open ing some little doors to direct air instead of filtered air, and sucking the flames back into the engine intake system, thus snuffing the flames. Only in this case, the able if not airplane-educated assistant pulled the pin, and flooded the aircraft engine intake with the dry, gritty, powdery stuff, while the doors were open on the engine to direct air. A huge charge of the stuff went into the engine, through the intake manifold, past the intake valves into the engine, and in a few moments the engine seized so solidly and suddenly that the airplane made a little sidewise crowhop. It was as if someone had put a wrench inside the cylinder barrel between the piston and the cylinder head.

Scratch one $12,000 engine!!!!

Now that was a true horror story!
