Subject: 85 Camper Engine replacement,
Calif Air Resources Board and Importing
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I have an 85 Camper which will not smog so I need to replace it's engine. I live in the SF Bay area. I may be moving to Canada within 6 months where they do not have air regulations for diesels, however I may also return to the SF Bay area a few years later.

Questions: If I put a diesel engine in, in Canada, can I reimport it to California when it was originally a California vehicle? Do I even have to reimport it or can I just drive it with Canadian plates?

If I do the engine replacement in California, can I put the engine from a California diesel car into my California diesel van?

Thanks for your interest. Fint 85 Westy, 86 535i, 04 Odyssey
