Two words...synthetic grease. I greased by linkage a few years ago with regular grease. Over time, the shifting got stiffer and stiffer. Regular grease turns into a paste in cold temperatures. The other night, I dropped the linkage, cleaned everything in a parts cleaner, and greased with synthetic grease. Smooth...

Synthetic grease is all I use now everywhere. Its simply far superior than regular grease.
