Well, that's pretty cool. I like the tripod mount concept, with some extra cable length one should be able to find a spot clear of obstructions for optimum antennae placement. My wife and I do not often utilize RV parks more often preferring national and state parks, forests and natural areas, which may present the problem of no available telephone line. This would, of course, but us back in the situation Mr. Chase has, in that he is forced to use a cell connection for his uplink. Assuming money is not an issue and expanded TV reception is a desire, then the extra money for both the cell connectivity for uplink and the satellite for downlink and TV may be a viable solution. Interesting idea for a situation like your folks, or the RoadHaus, but I am most often trying to escape these things for a short while when I hit the parks, but one day.... oh yes, one day I hope to cut the surly bonds, yaddi yaddi, is it Friday yet!?!

My folks have DirecTV in their Class A motorhome. The dish is tripod mounted on the ground at each RV park. Most of the RV parks (and campgrounds that cater to the larger coaches) have the direction and elevation numbers for the site printed right on the site maps. Dad says it takes about 10 minutes to set-up, about 5 minutes to strike... They have been full timing for almost 4 years now in a 33' Winnebago Brave. Dad decided on the ground mount tripod after the first year on the road (he wiped out the UHF/VHF batwing antenna when he forget to retract it when leaving the RV park. Mom discovered it missing after seeing a funny shadow about 1/2 hour down the road <<G>>)
