Subject: Once again,
What's the biggest tire that can fit in the STOCK spare carrier?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I posted this question about a week ago and got only a few replies, mostly pointing me towards Volks Cafe in the direction of their AFTERMARKET spare carrier. Thanks for the help, but that is not what my question was regarding. I am aware of the V.C. tire carrier and will go that route if needed. What I am asking is: WHAT IS THE LARGEST 15" TIRE THAT CAN FIT IN THE STOCK SPARE TIRE CARRIER UNDERNEATH THE FRONT END OF THE VANAGON SYNCRO? I know there are options to get a little bigger tire in there uninflated and I would like to know both inflated and uninflated options for the biggest sizes possible. I have seen mentions of this subject before on the list, but was not interested at the time, so I did not take notes. I remember mention of someone grinding the frame rails, just slightly, that surround the spare to accomodate a larger size. Anyone recall this? Thanks in advance, Brian Butler
