Subject: clutch smell
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Hello-

I was driving 87 Vanagon GL through some fairly demanding terrain, downtown Seattle, very hilly stop-and-go traffic. I consider myself fairly skilled with driving a manual, but as I was repeatedly stopping at stop signs on very steep hills, I started to detect "clutch smell".

The van continued to drive and shift fine on the way home. When I got out, and checked near the engine, there was a very faint bit of clutch smell, causing me to believe yes it was me and not another vehicle.

Is a bit of smell normal for this kind of challenging driving, or is this a sign of impending doom?

Thanks, reply privately if this is too newbie of a question.

rob
