All this talk about strange sounds, and other wierdness, especially as
brought out by Stan Wilder, brought to mind an event last week that was
wierd.
I was visiting a buddy who had just gotten a new (to him) car, a Nissan
Maxima. he had also bouth a brand new PC with all the whistles and
bells. We were sitting in his den, when all of a sudden, right out of
the blue, his computer turns on and boots up. We are sitting there
looking at each other with expressions of surprise on out faces, when
his new car right outside just starts up, like someone is about to drive
away. he jumps up, rushes out to see who is messing with his car, only
to find no one there, and the doors locked. he couldn't even get inside.
My friend is a bit excentric and I could see that he was a bit spooked.
I suggested we call the previous owner of the car, and he did. Then my
buddy found out the car had a remote start function, something he had
missed when he bought the car. he had sat on the switch and had
inadvertently started the car. He was relieved. I called the guy at home
who built the computer, and told him the story. He laughed so hard he
nearly fell off his sofa. He infomed us that the computer has a
softswitch so that when the software sensed an incoming telephone fax,
the computer would boot to receive the fax message. disconnecting the
phone line to the computer solved the problem until we could reset the
switch.
It was a funny event though, with everything booting up all at once.!!
