Steve, I'm curious about your "Bad Traction Experience" in your 2wd Van.

When I first bought my '85 GL I lived in Alaska ... truly "The Land of Ice and Snow". The first snowfall of the first winter I had the vehicle, I had a really bad spin-out in the middle of a busy highway. Scared the pootey out of me. Now I had drivern the thing all spring, summer and fall with not problems. It reall drove well on dry or wet pavement. No brake hassles or skiddling hassles at all. But came the winter and the first snow ... WOW!!!

Well, I went straight to the nearest tire dealer, and bought myself a brand new set of Goodyear studded snow tires. Problem resolved. From that time forth, that van had a grip on the road like tiger claws on a gazelle. I drove that van through 6 more winters there with never a problem, and now have another van - and 88 GL - at least in part becasue of how the 85 GL handled after putting on the studded tires. If I am in snow country again, I will again put on studded tires, and the van performs quite well with them.

regards,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
