Boy Voyage, Ben! Re batteries - all digital cameras eat them. But fortunately, you don't have to pack them in advance, they sell them in the lower 48. Home Depot is the cheapest place to buy them in huge quantities. But for environmental - and eventually financial - reasons, investing in a battery charger and some rechargeables is probably a better idea. I'm about to break down and get one myself. It looks like $30 (US) should cover the cost, I've been scouting Radio Shack, Staples, etc. I am perhaps on your route, would love to meet up. I read your tales about Baja, which were cool - also I will be in Montreal in July and was thinking of asking you where to plant my Vanagon while there. I'm now more or less in Virginia, will be in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia in March-April, would be delighted to connect somewhere. So if you know your schedule at all, please do send me an email!
