Subject: Re: Syn ATF is it worth it?

I had a '91 Westy with A/T. At about 100K I switched to Redline syn and the difference was very noticeable, as was the switch to Mobil 1 syn in the engine. The shifting was crisper, especially noticeable in cold conditions, and a sort of whine it had, disappeared. I drove this as my daily driver for over 2 years with the syn in it. As far as I know, without considerable effort, the best you can do is empty the tranny, change to a new screen and put in the syn. The amount of syn you wind up with is significant enough to make a very big difference, even with the mix of the remnant dino oil left. I'm not sure but I think there is a little less than a quart left in there that you can't get to without opening up the tranny and transaxle. just my experience and $0.02

I like synthetics and have put Mobile 1 in my 91 without any problems. Now I am considering putting syn ATF in my A/T, but want to query the list. I read in the archives that some have put it in. How to you get all the old ATF out? What are the net gains if any?
