Pretty scary looking damage.

Looking at the pictures, I seriously doubt this is a "typical" traffic accident. I looks more like this guy hit a very high, solid structure (like a concrete wall) or the van was hit by a train or other large moving vehicle (i.e. semi).

Either way, there isn't a car on the market that would enable a driver to survive the damage inflicted on this van.

I agree that the Vanagon has some impact advantages depending on what you hit or what hit's you.

I totaled a Pontiac Grand AM in a freeway pile-up in my 82 Westy and drove away from it.

But I have some convincing visual evidence that proves that the front end of a Vanagon can indeed be crushed .

I don't think the driver survived.
