Don, there is no PR at work here. I have found the Snopes site to be extremely information and completely unbiased. If something is indeed true, it will tell you. I find it to be invaluable in debunking these myths that people blindly follow because "if its on the Internet, it must be true!"

I have agree with Tim D's assessment. There are so many ways for the petrol companies to get around any sort of 'organized boycott' while still making profits. I live in Seattle, where gas prices seem to be perpetually high. I pass a spot where ARCO is selling unleaded for $1.79 and the 76 across the street has it at $1.95. Were are the market forces there? How does that happen? Is ARCO selling gas at a loss-leader so you go in and buy a $.99 fountain soda? I don't think so... There are some strange things going on in this business. just ask GWB, he knows.

We need to seriously reevaluate out petroleum usage in this country. I am no exception... I often feel guilty driving a Westy that gets about 15mpg in traffic on a good day, yet I cannot justify buying another more fuel efficient car for commuting while the Westy sits idle.
